Point locators and electrostimulation
Push buttons, point locators and point locating devices
Point locators, point locating devices and push buttons support the therapist in locating acupuncture points in acupuncture and auricular therapy. The acupuncturist can manually feel for a stimulation point by using a push button. Manual point locators and push buttons are available spring-loaded or rigid, depending on the type.
Since acupuncture points have a lower tension potential than other points on the skin, they can be determined by measuring tension resistances. Visual or acoustic feedback is issued with electric point locating devices. Devices such as electric point locating pins are capable of measuring changes in the electrical resistance of the skin. In the case of high-quality differential point locating devices, the acupuncture points are reliably located using, for example, differential point location, which is the simultaneous measurement of two different adjacent skin points. Such a differentiation is possible between silver and gold points in auricular acupuncture.
EMS and TENS devices for electrostimulation in acupuncture
Electrostimulation generally means that the human body is stimulated by applied electrical fields. Stimulation by electricity is often used in the treatment of tension, headache, and pain in the musculoskeletal system, but also of psychological disorders such as depression.
In electromyostimulation (EMS), the muscle cells are directly targeted with electricity. This is mostly achieved using electrodes attached to the skin or a clamp that is affixed to the inserted acupuncture needle. This allows multiple acupuncture points or trigger points to be additionally stimulated. The intensity of the stimulation can be adjusted by modifying the stimulation frequency, modulation, duration and current on the EMS device.
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) also involves electrical stimulation current therapy. Electrical impulses are transmitted through the skin to the nervous system and are intended to support the body in controlling pain.
Some EMS and TENS devices also have both the functions of a point locating device and electrostimulation capabilities.
ACR devices and supplies
This category also includes devices and supplies for ACR therapy and ACR diagnosis, such as small hammers, high-voltage rods or ACR probes. The auricular-cardiac reflex (ACR) introduced by Paul Nogier describes a possible reaction of the circulatory system to stimulation of the auricular acupuncture points.
