Course Overview

Instructors: Matt Callison and Brian Lau. Each day of this webinar workshop is divided into distinct morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session consists of presentations on Functional Anatomy and Anatomy of the Sinew Channels. These lectures are integrated to focus on the functional relationship between neuromuscular anatomy and the myofascial jingjin tissues and their relationship to the lower extremity. This information is followed by the afternoon session that consists of: 1) Assessment Guidelines 2) Motor Point Location and Protocols, 3) Cadaver dissection presentation. The information presented in this 2-day workshop will help the TCM practitioner to build a good foundation and to better understand the information presented in subsequent classes in this Module: Assessment and Treatment of the Channel Sinews and also Postural Assessment and Corrective Exercise (PACE) courses.

Course Objectives

• Learn lower extremity myofascial pathways that correlate with the classical sinew channels of TCM and the tissues belonging to each sinew channel with their functional anatomy relationship.
• Learn in theory how to determine which my myofascial sinew channels need to be assessed and treated for musculoskeletal injury.
• Learn normal and abnormal movement patterns of the lower extremity, ankle/foot complex and its relationship to the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex.
• The practitioner will learn nerve pathways, dermatomal distributions and muscle myotomes in relationship to channel topography.
• The practitioner will learn postural, functional and muscle imbalances that can lead to pain and dysfunction based on TCM theory.

Course Overview

This video presentation discusses the latest research on muscle motor entry point (MEP) locations, how to find the MEP location and effective needle protocols for these points. This presentation discusses over 33 muscle entry points of the lower extremity and foot. Matt Callison is a pioneer in motor point acupuncture and has spent over 30 years researching, refining and treating muscle motor entry points through the lens of western biomedicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Using surface electrical stimulation, research articles and documenting the locations of muscle motor entry points through his own cadaver dissections has been a career long endeavor. Matt Callison is a master in needling and is well known for designing very effective and innovative treatment protocols that includes MEP’s with traditional acupuncture points. Understanding where the motor nerve enters the muscle is very useful for the TCM practitioner to understand and can provide insight into needle depth and obtaining "de qi" sensation. Motor entry point locations are found through cun measurements and not X and Y coordinates. The locations of the motor entry points in this presenation are found using cun measurements, anatomical landmarks and traditional acupuncture points. This presentation has many cadaver specimen videos showing the motor entry point into the muscle. A cadaver warning announcement will be presented just prior to the video commencing.

Course Overview

Instructors: Brian Lau and Matt Callison This 2-day workshop developed by Brian Lau and Matt Callison highlights how the myofascial channel sinews (jingjin) contribute to efficient movement patterns and balance major joint structures of the lower extremity. Focus is on understanding how these channels are involved in postural and myofascial imbalances that can contribute to lower extremity and foot injuries. Practitioners will learn to accurately assess knee, ankle and foot imbalances with functional movement examinations, orthopedic examinations and manual muscle testing. “Acupuncture as an Assessment” strategies are used to build treatment protocols using innovative acupuncture strategies in combination with very effective myofascial release techniques that help to align the musculoskeletal system, decrease tension, reduce pain and enhance healing of the injured tissue. Brian Lau has been practicing structural integration techniques for over 20+ years and brings his experience into teaching the acupuncturist effective myofascial release techniques that can be applied immediately after the practitioner’s acupuncture treatment. These incredible and easy to learn structural integration techniques strongly reinforce the practitioner’s treatment protocol and helps to reduce needle soreness. Instructor: Ian Armstrong Assisted by Brian Lau and Matt Callison This 2-day cutting-edge course will teach the practitioner how to assess postural dysfunction and prescribe therapeutic exercises for postural, muscle and channel imbalances that have directly contributed to the patient's musculoskeletal injury. This course will teach the acupuncturist important skills to prescribe specific exercises in the management of their patient’s health care. Exercising different body parts simultaneously in specific and coordinated motions activates the myofascial sinew channels so that form and function can align. The practitioner will learn to integrate acupuncture protocols with exercise prescription, including how to use intra-dermal needle point prescriptions on the Extraordinary Vessel master points to alleviate discomfort, increase proprioception and enhance clinical outcomes. This PACE course will build from what was taught in PACE (Module II) that focused on the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex and its relationship to the lower extremity and foot/ankle complex. The remainder of this class will get the practitioner ready for information taught in Module IV: The Neck, Shoulder and Upper Extremity. The practitioner will learn to assess, through static and functional assessment techniques, postural disparities and associated muscle imbalances that can cause injury to these regions of the body. Participants will learn how to effectively prescribe therapeutic exercises that will help balance ribcage, neck, shoulder and upper extremity imbalances.

• Participants will learn how to effectively prescribe therapeutic exercises that will help balance the foot and ankle disparities such as pes planus and neck shoulder imbalances such as forward head, forward shoulder, cervical rotation.
• The practitioner will learn to integrate acupuncture protocols with exercise, including intra-dermal needle prescriptions on the Extraordinary Vessel master points to alleviate discomfort, increase proprioception and enhance clinical outcomes.
