Lisa Nicholson
Lisa Nicholson, L.Ac., is a California licensed and nationally certified acupuncturist in private practice for over 20 years in San Diego. She is a skilled nutrition counselor and wellness coach, with a passion for helping people experiencing physical and emotional pain to reconnect with their zest for living. As a breast cancer survivor, Lisa is particularly devoted to helping other cancer patients get through their treatment and restore their health through acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, lifestyle modification, and medical cannabis. She completed Medical Cannabis Coaching certification through Holistic Caring, Inc., and regularly geeks out on all things medical cannabis with influencers in the field.
Lisa is a former substance abuse counselor turned passionate educator and medical cannabis advocate, and is dedicated to restoring Da Ma to it's place as a "superior herb" as described by Li Shizhen in his apex materia medica. Her love for this special herb began with a meeting with a medical cannabis doctor in 2017 who referred her to a "bud tender" for instruction on how to best use this plant in conjunction with chemotherapy. Instead of relying on someone with no medical education to guide this process, Lisa dove deep into the medical literature and used what she found to support her own healing. She now uses this knowledge to help others safely and intelligently incorporate cannabis into their wellness routines.
Lisa's publications include "Cannabis in Chinese Medicine: Modern Interpretations and Integrations", JCM October 2022, and "Acupuncture for Treatment of Post-Radiation Skin Lesions in a Stage-4 Triple Positive Breast Cancer Patient: A Case Study", JAIM Fall 2022. She has been a guest on various acupuncture and holistic health podcasts and radio shows talking about cannabis in Chinese medicine. She is also a group expert for a variety of on-line breast cancer support groups for topics including sexuality for breast cancer patients and cannabis during and after breast cancer treatment.
When she's not in the clinic or deep into a MedLine search, Lisa can be found cooking with her husband, designing jewelry, hanging out with her cat, or riding crazy distances on a bicycle.
