The 8 Extraordinary Meridians
Course Overview
A review and discussion on the use of the 8 Extraordinary Meridians in veterinary acupuncture. The 8 Extraordinary Meridians allow us to access problems at a Yuan Qi level, where many chronic medical problems reside. Although we are all taught about these channels in our basic acupuncture course, often there is confusion about how to use these channels in a clinical setting. This course covers both what is taught in the basic acupuncture courses and what is needed for more sophisticated use of these channels. We cover the functions and clinical application of each of the 8 Extraordinary Meridians. We also cover potential modifications of opening and closing points based on anatomical differences between bipeds (humans) and quadrupeds (most of our patients). This course is suitable for preparation for advanced veterinary certification exams such as the FAAVA (Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture) exam.
